Hi!

The Geek!
The Geek!

My name is Sanket Sharma and I’m 27, Single and currently live in Sandton, Johannesburg (South Africa). I’m a born geek and I think I was born to be one.  How?  I can program in countless languages and I can speak German - you don’t really require more evidence, do you?  Not only a geek, but I think I’m obsessed with technology and the Internet. I’m a Mac user (Mac Book Pro, 17″), I love my Playstation 3 (and Metal Gear!)  And I rock!

I was born in a small town called Sri Ganganagar near India-Pakistan border and have come a long way since then. Always curious and inquisitive as a child, I first started programming at the age of 8 using my ZX spectrum+ in BASIC and have now been programming in almost all major programming and scripting languages ranging from Java, Visual Basic, PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript on one hand to Assembly, C, C++ and Win32 programming on the other.

I eventually decided to take this hobby as my full time career and joined ZenSar technologies as an Intern. It was during that time that I also participated in Google’s Summer of Code and contributed JMX extensions to Apache Software Foundations Derby Database. Apache Derby is now part of Java 6 and JMX extensions will eventually be a part of Java 7 (Dolphin). I  hold a Master’s Degree in Computer Applications and I also am a member of the IEEE and ACM societies.

It was during this time with ZenSar that I picked up Knowledge, Content and Document management and now I work as a Solution Designer/Programmer in Document and Input Management space.
Besides computers, I’m also fascinated by astronomy, astrophysics, world economics, world history and extra terrestrial life forms!

I’m not really as serious as this description might make me look like. I think I really belong that class of “new age cool geeks”, if you know what I mean. On the lighter side, I like trekking, taking long walks in nature, camping, reading, travelling, listening to music, long drives, playing cricket, basketball and being the lazy me. I just love watching “The Simpsons” and I think this is the greatest animated comedy series ever made.

On the whacky side, I can be a complete idiot and can make you laugh till you cry but thats only If I strike the right notes with you. I love hanging out with a few friends real life friends that I have and I can party for weeks, if I really get in a groovy mood.

My current interests include writing (aspiring writer :-) thats why this blog), learning Saxophone (Love the jazzy blues!), alternative energy sources, entrepreneurship, Web 2.0 and the paradoxical world of Enterprise 2.0. Yes, It’s a paradox and a real cool one - as part of my job I try to structure and organize information in the best possible way while Enterprise 2.0 is about providing even the most unstructured and unorganized information to the user - without too much search!

In rare event of you finding me an interesting person, you can follow me on twitter @cucumberboy or FaceBook me or can simply drop me a line at sanketsharmaATGmailDotCom
